From hobby to passion to business
I don’t know about others but my coffee journey started simply out of survival instinct. Grad school required many sleepless nights and my taste for good coffee outpaced my ability to pay rent. A friend told me about coffee roasting—that I can enjoy good coffee at a fraction of the cost by buying green coffee and roasting it myself. I bought myself a small popcorn popper after seeing someone YouTube use one to roast coffee (believe it or not, popcorn poppers can make some incredible coffees). It opened me up to a whole new world of coffee roasting and I was hooked.
Kin Coffee was born out of wanting to share a part of this beautiful yet broken world of coffee with our consumers, hoping to bring some positive changes. Coffee world is beautiful. Most of the farms are situated in spectacular sceneries, managed by passionate people who care about the product and the environment. However, the human greed often leads to exploitation, environmental harm, and unhealthy working conditions. Kin Coffee is not here to fix everything, but simply to do our part. We want to introduce this beautiful yet broken world to our consumers so they can start to participate in the change. So that we can secure the future of this great commodity, protect everyone involved, and bring great product to consumers.
Three things we’re doing to achieve this goal.
Source Transparency - we know where our coffee comes from.
Direct Trade partnership - we buy from farms directly
Invest in origin economy - we educate farmers to grow better coffee
